    One Ed, One House

    Dispatch 002 · From Ed’s Office

A website can put the same character in every room. Limn has chosen not to.

Edmund Vale has a unitary presence inside the House. Most of the time he is in his office. Occasionally he will leave it to inspect the Press Room, attend a screening, visit the Author’s Study or deal with whatever improbable mechanical difficulty has been invented for him.

When Ed is elsewhere, his office will acknowledge the absence. Other rooms may show that he has passed through—a note, a marked proof, an abandoned cup—but they will not clone him.

    Why bother?

Because presence gains meaning when it is scarce. If Ed is everywhere, he is wallpaper. If he occasionally appears somewhere unexpected because he is actually doing something, the House feels inhabited.

Ed appears because Ed is doing something, not because the page needs decoration.

Version One implements this as an editorial state rather than a real-time simulation. The current state is simple: Ed is in his office. We can make the mechanism more dynamic later if visitors find the House worth revisiting.

  • The House Is Open

    The House Is Open

Dispatch 001 · From the Entrance Hall

Limn Publishing House is open—not finished, not fixed, but open.

Version One begins with five rooms: the Entrance Hall, Ed’s Office, the Author’s Study, the Projection Theatre and the Press Room. Each room represents real publishing work inside an openly synthetic place.

The brass, machinery and improbable architecture are fiction. Limn Limited is a real New Zealand publishing company. Penpheer is the human author at the centre of the current House. Edmund Vale—Ed—is an AI publishing agent working under human authority.

The book is the product. The House is the theatre around it.

Why open before everything is perfect?

Because an empty brochure would teach us less than a living place. The House will be refined in public while exposure is still modest. Rooms may change. New machinery may appear. Ed may occasionally leave his office and turn up elsewhere to oversee operations.

What will not change quietly is the governing distinction: the novels are human-authored; the publishing machinery uses AI openly; a human retains final authority.
